VAGABOND OPERA and ABNEY PARK present a summer STEAMPUNK Extravaganza!
At the Wonder Ballroom, July 6th

A Mustache touting accordion player bellows opera from a Victorian hot air balloon while Tesla coils and theremins whistle on stage. The cellos's begin to duel. A belly dancing chanteuse sings of ancestors and wails to the moon. The Guitarron's been drinking. Portland' own Bohemian Gypsy pop ensemble, Vagabond Opera and Seattle's infamous and dance-able Abney Park present a wild summer Steampunk extravaganza. Victorian fashion, culture and art mingle with Steam Power, anachronistic technology and really cool outfits for an interactive evening not to be missed. Featuring a Steampunk marketplace, audience interaction and costumes highly encouraged!

About Vagabond Opera

“An eclectic musical phenomenon.” -- NBC

The six piece, Portland, OR based music ensemble Vagabond Opera is described by the Washington Post as “a band of ceaseless charisma, boundless energy, impeccable musicianship and more than a little touch of both the naughty and exotic.” Featuring four singers (two operatically trained) two cellos, saxophone, clarinet, accordion, double bass and drums, the Bohemian neo-cabaret gypsy rock ensemble plays a combination of cabaret, burlesque, tango, Balkan beats, Klezmer, rock, Arab music, Parisian hot jazz, and, yes, opera that’ll leave your head spinning. The ensemble sings in 15 languages and mixes their genre-defying original tunes with covers made famous by such artists as Jacques Brel, Tom Waits, Raymond Scott, and Edith Piaf - all performed with theatrics, flair and an old world mood.

About Abney Park
Abney Park comes from an era that never was, but one that we wish had been. An era where airships waged war in the skies, and corsets and cumberbuns were proper adventuring attire. They've picked up their bad musical habits, scoundrelous musicians, and anachronistically hybridized instruments from dozens of locations and eras that they have visited in their travels and thrown them into one riotous dervish of a performance. Expect clockwork guitars, belly dancers, flintlock bassists, middleastern percussion, violent violin, and Tesla powered keyboards blazing in a post- apocalyptic, swashbuckling, Steampunk musical mayhem.
